Step 1: Initial Assessment
Your child may join Ready To Learn at any time of the year. You may call, email or fax us to arrange an appointment with our Student Counselor, Academic Coordinators or Senior Teacher. They are highly trained & experienced and will meet with your child in a comfortable classroom at the centre of your choice. They will assess your child’s existing English skills and determine a suitable starting point for your child in our system.

Step 2: 'Private' or 'small Group' instruction
You then choose either ‘Private’ or ‘Small Group’ classes for your child. ‘Private’ classes provide one to one instruction while ‘Small Group’ classes provide instruction for groups of up to a maximum of 4 students. ‘Private’ classes offer the student the opportunity to learn on a one-to-one basis, which some parents and students prefer. The ‘Small Group’ classes however, provide opportunities for group discussion and peer evaluation. Whichever option is chosen, the students will make excellent progress, as all students benefit from the attention of their teacher and a completely exclusive learning system.

Step 3: Placement into a class
Once you’ve indicated to the Student Counselor which centre, day and time would be convenient, your child will be allocated a teacher who will normally – but not always – instruct your child from lesson to lesson. You cannot choose your teacher but you may indicate which teachers you would normally prefer. If you have opted for semi-private instruction, your child will be placed into a class with a maximum of three other children of similar age and ability. Each of the children in the class will be taught the very same 8 page book as your son or daughter. That way the whole class moves forwards together.

Step 4: Lesson by Lesson
Depending on the age of the child, and the specific lesson, a 60 minute period of instruction typically consists of a variety of activities including speaking, listening, letter-sound correspondence, basic sight words, guided oral reading, comprehending texts, creative writing and critical thinking. It is the focus and repetition of activities that provide the opportunity for students to achieve balanced English language skills. You can find out more about what your child might be learning at: http://www.rtl.edu.hk/Extra_English_Courses_Introduction.php

Step 5: Advancing Step-by-step
The curriculum is made up of five stages of increasing difficulty. Lesson by lesson our students advance in small, manageable steps, making sequential progress so that they acquire English language skills that last a life-time. The lesson books and teaching materials are all part of a very carefully planned step-by-step teaching system that was specially created by language experts and are completely exclusive to Ready To Learn. Each book is slightly more challenging than the last. The five stages comprise 15 levels each of which includes 36-40 sixty minute lessons. These lessons are accompanied by approximately 550 seven page books as well as pre-recorded tapes and teaching aids. At the back of each book the child will complete a brief review of the lesson contents to ensure they have achieved the key objectives of the lesson and are able to move to the next book in the sequence. Your child will take the book home at the end of the lesson so that you may monitor your child’s progress, as well as review the lesson at home, which has the added benefit of observing your child’s progress. Additional courses develop supplementary skills as well as prepare students for school or English language tests.

Step 6: On-going Progress Monitoring
At the end of each lesson, the teacher will write an internal report on your child’s performance. Four lesson reports are then collated and distilled to create a monthly report for parental review. The monthly Student Progress Report allows you to closely follow the progress of your child from month to month. Each lesson is audio-taped and sent home; this enables parents to assess performance by listening to the tape at the end of each lesson. The tape and the lesson book allow the parent to be fully aware of their child’s performance and progress.

Step 7: Trained, Professional Teachers
Overseas teachers must have a degree; all teachers have to be qualified according to the standards set out by EDB; all teachers are trained by RTL; all teachers are supervised by RTL to ensure sustainable quality. Each teacher adheres to the lesson-by-lesson teaching instructions, therefore your child receives a similar standard of teaching regardless of who, or where, your child is taught.

Step 8: Certification
At the end of each level (36-40 lessons) your child will be presented by the Principal or Academic Coordinator with a certificate that recognises and details their achievements.

Step 9: Optional English language testing
Our courses prepare children to take international English language tests. Each year, hundreds of our students succeed at Cambridge University Young Learner Tests, Trinity College London Tests, London Tests of English for Children and other English language tests. Our students typically outperform other students in Hong Kong and elsewhere in the world. These tests are useful as an independent means of benchmarking your child’s language ability, but are also preferred by many Primary and Secondary School for admission and monitoring purposes. You can find out more about English Test Results at: http://www.rtl.edu.hk/English_Test_ Results.html

Step 10: Extra English Programmes
Our courses develop skills that are transferable into homework, school tests, international English tests and general conversation. However, we recognize that some parents prefer for their children to receive tutoring in specific areas of the English language. As such, we offer short preparation courses for Primary School attainment tests, Cambridge YLE, KET, PET, Trinity ESOL tests, as well as English homework help, Grammar, Writing, Poetry and other classes.
